Are there protections against eviction?

General Rule: Tenants who fall under the scope of the Residential Tenancies Act cannot be legally evicted unless a landlord follows the legal eviction process. This includes the landlord getting an Eviction Order from the Landlord and Tenant Board.

Exceptions: Tenants who do not fall within the scope of the Residential Tenancies Act don’t have access to its protections and can be evicted without the landlord following the legal eviction process, meaning the tenant might not get any notice of the eviction and they won’t have access to a hearing.
