Step 2: What is an Application to Evict a Tenant?
If the Notice isn’t cancelled or “voided”, an Application to Evict a Tenant (also known as an Application to End a Tenancy) can be filed by their landlord at the Landlord and Tenant Board. This application will provide details about what their landlord wants the Board to do.
If your client received an Application to Evict a Tenant (e.g. L1 Application, L2 Application, etc.), they should have also received a Notice of Hearing. This Notice will tell your client the time and place of the Eviction Hearing (which will likely be happening virtually). It is very important that your client attends their hearing.
How You Can Help:
- Step 1: Tell your client that they don’t need to move out, if they don’t want to.
- Step 2: If your client has paperwork that includes a Landlord and Tenant Board File Number, they can check the status of their file online. Knowing the file number is critical to getting information about the eviction application on file at the Board.
