How can someone reapply for ODSP?

General Rule: Your client can reapply for assistance from ODSP, but how they reapply will vary depending on the last time they received income support from the program.

If they received support:

  • Within the last year: They can request their support be reinstated as long as they have served their period of ineligibility mandated by ODSP (if any). If their reinstatement request is denied, they might need to reapply. ODSP should tell your client whether they can use a previous application or if they need to complete a new application, but a previous determination of disability should remain valid.
  • If it has been more than 1 year: They will likely need a new application, but a previous determination of disability should remain valid.

How You Can Help:

  • If your client wants to dispute a decision to cancel their support payments, refer them to a legal clinic and make sure they bring their Notice of Decision, if they have it. If your client can’t receive legal advice, help them complete the Request for Internal Review Form or draft their own letter. Make sure they submit their request within 30 days from when they received the Notice of Decision about the cancellation.
  • If you client wants to re-apply for support, ask them how long it has been since they last received money from ODSP and assist them with gathering and organizing the required documentation for their application.
