What if someone wants to dispute a decision made about their emergency assistance?
General Rule: Although your client can request an internal review of a decision about Emergency Assistance, these decisions cannot be appealed beyond the internal review process, this includes if they were denied Emergency Assistance after they applied.
How You Can Help:
- Step 1: If your client wants an internal review of a decision about their Emergency Assistance or their application for Emergency Assistance, refer them to a legal clinic and remind them to bring their Notice of Decision, if they have it.
- Step 2: If your client can’t receive legal advice, help them complete a form letter for internal review or draft their own letter. Make sure they submit their request within 30 days from when they received the Notice of Decision about their emergency assistance.
- Step 3: Help your client find other sources of funding (e.g., rent banks, etc.) while they wait for a decision from the internal review.
