What is Emergency Assistance?

Ontario Works can provide immediate short-term financial assistance to someone experiencing a crisis or emergency situation. This could be useful for clients facing evictions or those recently released from custody and in need of financial assistance.

Emergency assistance includes amounts for:

• Basic needs
• Shelter
• Health benefits

How much is provided to each person is decided on a case-by-case basis but generally someone cannot get more than what they would get from Ontario Works’s regular income assistance program.
