How can your client apply for legal aid if they don’t have a fixed address?
Usually someone applying for legal aid has to provide their address in their application, but there are some exceptions to this rule:
- Certificates: If your client doesn’t own property and they are residing in a shelter, you can help them apply online. If they aren’t residing in a shelter, you can help them call Legal Aid Ontario at 1-800-668-8258.
- Community legal aid clinics: While community legal clinics usually only serve clients who live in their geographic catchment area, most will still assist someone without a fixed address.
- If your client is staying in a shelter, refer them to the clinic closest to that shelter.
If your client is not staying in a shelter, refer them to the closest clinic in their area.
