How does ODSP determine whether someone has a disability?

To qualify for ODSP, someone will need to meet the program’s definition of disability. ODSP defines disability as a substantial mental or physical impairment which:

  • Can be either continuous or recurrent
  • Is expected to last beyond a year
  • Results in a substantial restriction in their ability to work, care for themselves, or participate in community life
  • Is verified by an approved health care professional

ODSP will determine if someone meets this definition through a Disability Determination Package. This package must be completed with an approved health care professional.
