What if someone is residing in an interval or transition home for abused women?
General Rule: If someone is residing in an interval or transition home but keeping their residence in the community, they are eligible for full income assistance for at least the first 3 calendar months. If they are not keeping their residence in the community, they (and every member of their family residing in the interval or transition home) are still eligible for $149/month in income assistance, unless they are receiving other income. After the first 3 months, their income assistance might be reduced but the amount they receive should still be no less than $149/month for each member of the family in the home.
How You Can Help:
- Step 1: Make sure your client contacts their caseworker to tell them about the change in circumstance and to confirm their continued eligibility for income support.
- Step 2: If your client continues to have an issue with getting their payments after speaking with their worker, refer them to a legal clinic.
- Additional steps you can take: If they were living with someone receiving ODSP but your client isn’t eligible for ODSP on their own, you can help them submit an application for Ontario Works. For more information, see: “How do you start an application for Ontario Works?”
